Many Prim
ary Immunodeficiency (PI) diseases can easily be diagnosed and effective treatment options are available. However, awareness of PI is sometimes lacking. As a result, many patients are left undiagnosed and untreated. In response, the Jeffrey Modell Foundation (JMF) established a Physician Education and Public Awareness Campaign to encourage early diagnosis and precise treatment, and to create greater awareness of these diseases.
Local and national television networks, radio stations, newspapers, website banners, airport dioramas, and mall dioramas have featured the message of PI, stressing the importance of the earliest possible diagnosis.
The ads have been aired on 60 Minutes, Good Morning America, the Today Show, the Tonight Show, and during most televised sporting events. Full-page 4-color ads have appeared in Time, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, InStyle, Bazaar, and Parents magazines. Website banner ads have run on AOL.com, Babycenter.com, Everydayhealth.com, MSN.com, CNN.com, Nickjr.com, and Yahoo.com.
The Campaign, now in its sixth year, is supported by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
