“The Jewish Federation of Monmouth County were thrilled to have Jill Zarin and Lisa Wexler as our keynote speakers at the Main Event hosted by Women’s Philanthropy on May 3, 2012. Our capacity crowd of more than four hundred and twenty women loved the address which touched on the importance of community and the power of women. Our attendees loved their candor and willingness to take photographs with each guest. Both Jill and Lisa took the time before and after the event to sign copies of their book which was a very nice touch. On a night where we honored nineteen very special women, it was wonderful to have two professional and accomplished women as our keynote speakers who really understood our message and bonded with our audience. A wonderful part of our very successful event.”

I really enjoyed listening to andwatching your insight on Fox news morning extra regarding Chen Guancheng. I especially appreciate you bringing attention to the specific causes he is fighting against (i.e. enforced sterilization). I thought that the issue would be buried and forgotten in a day. I am glad that the local news is making a true attempt to seriously discuss difficult global issues.
Your focus on Secret Service personnel hiring escorts in Colombia is misplaced. You have (together with the rest of the media) focused exclusively on a labor dispute with one local, to the complete exclusion of the US Govt stand taken by Mr. Obama on US policies in and towards Latin America. You ignore that Mr. Obama had the Cubans excluded from the Summit due to a grievance that developed in 1959 with the Eisenhower Administration over a nationalized refinery, a profound grudge match that has gone on through eight administrations over 52 years (absurd? You bet). You ignore that Mr. Obama rejects the Latin view that US demand for narcotics is undermining their societies and causing carnage in their streets. You ignore that the US persists in overreach of US Jurisdiction onto the high seas. While you titillate over some hooker, these real issues are ignored. Shame on you.
I was in the car driving up from the Bronx yesterday and listening to your show, it was about 5:50. Wanted to call but didn’t get the #, will have to put in my cell. Anyway. I ain’t moving to India to do mortgages LOL! However, I would have wanted to discuss some way of keeping jobs here, we do need a more level playing field for sure, I don’t know how we get ourselves into these messes, a step and a policy and a year at time..and it just evolves. We try to be the good-guys and not become ‘protectionistic’ and be bigger than the rest. But it all comes at a price. And yes, I too detest provincial thinking. Interesting topics, all. Lastly, thanks for explaining the difference in florida’s 2nd degree murder vs. what we call manslaughter up here. Good show!
Kenneth lived in PUBLIC HOUSES ? In White Plains and didn't open the door for the cops? Plus the Fire Departmant was there. Come on is he CRAZY... it would be different if he lived in a million dollar house. Plus he is BLACK. You can't do that, you are asking for trouble. And a two hours stand off with the cops? THEY ARE GOING TO SHOOT HIM.
Lisa I see your point but are teachers really that much different from any other civil servant? If we are going to hold them to this level of public scrutiny then we need to do the same thing with police, fire, ems and any and all other public workers, including judges, prosecutors, probation officers, correction officers and on and on. This would be impossible and impractical. Teachers are no more crucial to society than any of these others and it is not right to do this to one isolated group.
Dear Lisa, I saw you on channel 3 news this morning discussing the education reforms currently taking place in CT. One thing I have noticed with this topic is that the teachers are the main point of interest. I understand some of the points that were brought to light, but I also want to point out that education starts at home. It starts with the little things like vocabulary and manners, teaching self-respect as well as respect for others and authority (this includes teachers), it starts by encouraging and empowering your children to become learners. Too many people let these values slide at home putting all the responsibility on the teacher, not only for the education but for the discipline process as well. Disruption of classes and disrespect of the teachers, principals, and classmates in not acceptable and affects all students. Sometimes it is not the teachers failing. Yes, I am a parent of three who still believes in morals and values.
You are wonderful. Every day you say something that moves me. I love how you call the parent/teacher relationship like a client/service provider. I love how you said today don't trust others to care for your loved ones like you would yourself. I get something to think about each day I tune in. Thank you.
Lisa, I appreciate that you'd like to see Oprah and Sarah stand together against vile language toward women but Sarah has to walk the walk first. She gives as good as she gets. Remember when she accused Pres. Obama of not having "cojones"? Real nice. She also said she was having "WTF" moments when the President was delivering his State of the Union speech. I've never heard Oprah use that type of language.
I just had a chance to listen to the show you did regarding adoptee rights. You are so right on……..Did you know that the bill in CT was passed several years ago but that Gov Rell wouldn’t sign it? We hear that it was about protecting the rights of the mothers but who knows if that is really the case. Also, adoption records were open in CT until 1974 when during that legislature, the closing of the records was a rider to a bill that was done last minute and had no public hearing regarding it. I totally agree with you that this is a civil rights issue. Adoptees in the US are the only citizens who are not allowed to know their birth origin. I appreciate your talking about this and if you decide to bring it up again, I hope that I would be available to chat with you about it.
Take care and take a good deep breath of that Westchester County air for me…….as you know, it is my home and sometimes I still miss it!!
I loved your program on "false praising"! It all stems from the delusion of wanting to spare kids from feelings of guilt and/or shame, and instead always seek to build their "self-esteem." What a crock of caca!
My psychologist wife witnessed the epitome of this trend while observing an elementary school class one day. The teacher asked a question, one of the children raised his hand and answered, and her response was: "That's a right answer, Johnny, but not for this question."
Good Gawd! Just tell the kid he's wrong! You're not doing him any favors otherwise.
I was very glad that you invited Kathleen Jones onto your show to talk about Mormonism, because the public at large has little understanding of the doctrines that underlie that cult's slick, "Osmondized" appearance.
Oh, yes, Romney claims that he does not believe in polygamy, but that is a half-truth.
If Mitt's wife were to die, he could marry again and have both wives in the afterlife "for time and all eternity." If he were to die, however, Ann could marry again, but only until "death do them part" --because she "belongs" to Mitt.
Funny how nobody ever asks about this, and instead interviewers simply swallow the half-truth that Mormons no longer "believe" in polygamy. It is an essential part their doctrine about the afterlife --and you bet Mitt believes it.
Lisa, you opened your heart today on the air and it resonated deeply with me. My husband and I will have been together 20 years this summer; married for nearly five but we dated since I was 16. Your story today hit close to home—not because we’ve been faced with addiction (fortunately we have not) but because we have had our struggles and during those hard times, we always had a choice… and our choice was to honor our promise to one another and here we are today—stronger than ever but we work at it. You and your husband are lucky to have each other .My best wishes for a lifetime of love, happiness, respect and truth.
LIsa, was only able to catch a few minutes of live show from New Hampshire yesterday, but it was the interview with Buddy Roemer. I agreed with almost every statement that came out of his mouth! Who is this man, and why haven't we heard about him before? Nice interview.
Nice job on the breast feeding issue, I couldn't agree more. Nothing nasty about it, actually a beautiful bonding moment between mother and child. One that our generation lost out on. I don't know many people our age who were breast fed, and look at the mess we are in. I used to watch my wife nurse our second child and be a little envious. (and not from the typical male perspective if you know what I mean) This country needs to get over their breast obsession. Its natural and very beneficial.
Let me tell you what is really nasty, watching a nascar driver chew tobacco and spit. Or a major league ball player spitting and then grabbing his crotch.
Today was a powerful show and I respect your guest so much for talking on the radio about something Soo personal. I hope her talking about it will help women or people out there in some way. Great show!
Please let Lauren Dushin, your guest today, know how brave I think she is. I can only imagine how difficult it is for her to re-open the wound and talk about her experience. I know from my own experience how difficult it is for me to open and then try to close the wound. She is a hero for me, someone who will inspire the better part of me to grow and go forth into the world. I don't know if I could do what she did today! She gave me hope! Hope for sunshine after it all.
GOOD TO HEAR YOUR VOICE AGAIN FRACKING HAS BEEN A SUBJECT OF DISPUTE SINCE JAN. 2011. I HAVE BEEN SIGNING PETITIONS TO THE CONGRESS SINCE THEN. GO ON THE WEB AND SEE ALL THE OPPONENTS AND SIGN ON. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THIS OCCUPY WALL STREET GROUP DEMAND THAT THE S.E.C. GET SOME POWER LIKE THE JUSTICE DEPT. AND GO AFTER THE CEOS AND MIDDLE EXEC AND OUR CONGRESSMEN WHO WALKED AWAY AND CONTINUE TO WALK AWAY WITH MILLIONS BROUGHT TO JUSTICE. I ALSO WANT THE WALL ST. PEOPLE DEMAND THAT NO CONGRESS PERSON EVER, EVER, EVER, NEVER BE ALLOWED TO BE A LOBBIEST WHEN HE LEAVES CONGRESS. I BELIEVE ITS JUST A PERIOD OF I YR. NOW- WHAT A JOKE!!!!
The powers that be who have brought us to this sad condition, do not have my consent. I have very different values than they! It's upsetting but no surprise that sports figures often have severe character flaws. As role models go, we aren't getting our money's worth. These characters are selected by athletic ability only, because in a simplistic view of things, winning is everything. But in reality, we have lost our way. And these misplaced resources are lost, diverted from more noble causes. Thank you so much for placing a bright spotlight on this troubling issue.
